The title itself says a lot, but let me explain. See, Reputation is commonly broken down into two main divisions.
Good Reputation
and
Bad Reputation
both being affected by your choices. Lets start off with
Good Reputation
If you want to earn a good reputation, you would have to get on the good sides of the people who would like to see you do good. Like May, Maybe Dawn.
Good Rep would be earned by doing small things such as helping the girls with some of their troubles. For example: Lets say there's a situation where May is hungry, the line is long and she doesn't feel like waiting. So? She asks YOU, if you can get her lunch for her.
Now ofcourse, anyone wanting to get with May won't mind doing that. But I believe, in order to gain something, you must lose something.
How about this.
Before May asks you to get her some Lunch, Tierno(Is that his name?) mentions something about the battle team to Leaf. Now, If you get May her lunch, you'll miss out on what he has to say, which could be some pretty useful information about the Battle team. And If you're Interested in the battle team and Interested in May, Do you Sacrifice Useful Information for the good reputation? Some will, Some won't. You the Player decides which takes priority.
On a side note. Each Character has their own separate Reputation values. Doing something good for May will ONLY raise your good reputation for MAY. Doing something Good for Leaf will ONLY do something good for LEAF. Now there can be some events where you can boost your reputation for both depending on the situation, but you should get the gist.
On to
Bad Reputation
Now, you may think Bad Reputation may only result in negative up comings for you. But that's not always the case. A Bad Rep with a girl may make her dislike you and try to make her friends not be around you, which can be problematic if you're trying to get a certain girl. But then again, What if the girl you're trying to get LIKES you having a Bad rep with a certain girl?
Example: Lets use Flannery. She seems like a pretty bad chick. Lets say her and Misty got into a little argument. They don't like eachother. You have a Bad rep with misty, Allowing you and Flannery to connect on some level, making it easier to build a Good Rep with her. See where I'm getting at?
Also, if you have Bad rep with a few of the girls, It can boost your kinship with the males. Making you more of a Bro. As having girl may make most of the guys want to encourage you. And if that's the case, Being a bro with Hilbert can get you close to Hilda at the cost of being on bad terms with Green and May.
See?
Earning Bad Rep would be doing bad things. Such as breaking promises, insulting them, Doing something they wouldn't consider right. Blah Blah Blah.
