Because it's more consistent with other VNs that allow the player to decide how to feel rather than a sprite of Red showing emotion for them. |

Though it's a minor thing either way, I personally prefer having it. It would be nice if it was an option. |

There is no option. It's gone. Without it, the player can make their opinions on the situation more over having to look at a Sprite of themselves to decide how they feel. The whole point is to be immersive, so it's not coming back. |

I don't really buy that argument. I guess if it works for some people that's cool, but I find that since Red's dialogue is entirely written anyway, including lots of internal thoughts, his feelings and reactions aren't particularly open for interpretation or immersion. I don't think taking the pictures away does much to improve this. Obviously this is not and should not be Knights of the Old Republic; there are only so many actual decisions and reactions the player gets to make, so I very much see Red as his own character, a seperate entity from myself that player. Fortunately, he's been very well written; he has lots of personality and charisma* while playing the straight man just enough to let the player relate to him as much as possible. The quality of writing for Red and most other characters far exceed my expecations for a fan game. * the ease in which he gets other characters to like him much more believable than say, Fire Emblems Awakening and Fates. |
