Today when I checked the site and my hopes were crushed again. What if 2, 5 or for years from now whenever the full game releases it gets copyrighted by Nintendo and suffers from Uranium syndrome and gets taken down. I hope this doesn't happen but if it does I'm not saying you should do it it's just a "thought" wink wink at the admins to make an offshore branch to download the game not that anyone would do that wink wink but it would be a good idea metaphoracally speaking wink wink just an idea ;) .

There's no use worrying about that stuff IMO. Like, it would suck tremendously but it's always a danger. I agree with you in that I would support the game being 'leaked' but that's not a great solution because it gets released through like a different website with less exposure and also the actual creators can't claim REAL credit, etc, a whole can of worms and that's the least of it.

The good thing is though that Uranium is just a normal pokemon game like all others, which makes it a direct competitor for normal pokemon games. Academy Life is something Nintendo has never made, especially in the pokemon world.

Yeah, this is always a danger. I store the updated demos and other fan games on USBs in case Nintendo decides to take the game out. Assets might still be there in the files too, so if someone didn't mind breaking copyright and knew how to work the engine, they could feasibly resurrect the project, though in a smaller scale to avoid attention.

That being said, there have been some fan material that Nintendo hasn't taken down yet. there's a d20 pen-and-paper pokemon RPG that's been up for some time now (and might be an alternative should this game be taken down). Though I've heard Nintendo is quite strict with intellectual property, they might make some exceptions if the material is vastly different from their usual games.

I don't actually think there is much danger of this game being shut down by Nintendo. The truth is that Nintendo doesn't like to shut down fan games, and Pokemon Academy Life isn't a game Nintendo has made so there is no market loss for them. And market loss is an important factor regarding copyright, so as long as this isn't sold commercially and acknowledges the source material it should be fine.

A game like Uranium is an active threat to their IP however and can lead to a market loss for their own games. Even if they were OK with that, Copyright and Trademark laws typically require that they are defended aggressively from possible threats, which is why you had things like Bethesda attempting to sue Mojang over their card game "Scrolls", or King.com filing suit against the developers of "The Banner Saga"

I'm also quite certain Nintendo already knows about this game anyway, I would be very surprised to see them take action at a later date but I wouldn't say there's no chance of it either.
