So, as we all may or may not know, Leaf is a bit of an aqua-phobic. To put it in her own words, "those things always rubbed me the wrong way." So, in light of this, does anyone else find it ironic that she had a strong interest in marine biology? That's like someone with speluncaphobia (the fear of caves) wanting to become a miner. |

I don't find it strange at all. Sometimes a person's interest in a subject is what leads to their fear of it. I'm a perfect example actually, I am quite interested in marine life and also possess a crippling irrational fear of fish, and any body of water that might contain fish... even if it's just minnows or other small bait fish. While games from my early childhood like Banjo-Kazooie are certainly to blame, I wasn't afraid to swim in a lake until I learned more about the cold-blooded murderers every fish is. I'm 100% unwilling to swim in any water that might have a catfish swimming near me. I'd be more comfortable if you told me there were alligators, as long as it didn't have any fish. A cruise ship is probably my biggest nightmare |

It could be a number of things, though, I think she said she "used to," as if she no longer has an interest in marine biology. I could be wrong, I remember the scene but not the exact dialogue context. Either way, its just a future plot point that will be worked into her character. Though, by looking in terms of character development - it appears Leaf, Serena, and Misty have been given the most character development and thought as of this time in the game's production. Another individual on the forum brought up a similar question earlier in the context of Leaf's fear of water. You might find some of their observations to be comparable or contrasting with your own. viewtopic.php?f=4&t=282 |
