Don't save during the free time exploration. It currently breaks everything for whatever reason. To avoid this, save just before but not during. Never during.

Regarding the Misty thing, you're right that it isn't a bug. But since the roommates have dialogue if you have the same name as them, maybe Misty should too? Not a priority or anything though.
