'''Calem''' is one of [[Red]]'s (player character) roommate options in ''[[Pokémon Academy Life]]''. He comes from a family of professional Pokémon trainers. As a result, he is a very studious and diligent individual who is gifted in Pokémon knowledge, from both the combat and academic sides. He takes these gifts seriously as he fully intends to pursue a scholarly life after graduating from [[Kobukan Academy]].

==First glance==
Calem is tall for his age and fairly lanky. He is shown to be very responsible, aside from the periodic mental lapse, and many of his peers look to him as an exemplary academy student. Calem is so capable of staying organized that he sometimes oversteps his boundaries and gets involved with the personal matters of the people around him. However, if he can help it, Calem prefers solitude and a quiet environment where he can sort out his thoughts.

He gets along well with [[Cheren]], as the two of them tend to follow logic more than anything else. One of his ongoing pain points is [[Serena]], his next-door neighbor whom he's known since childhood. The two of them frequently butt heads over different ideologies and sometimes even bicker over the most trivial matters. However, they are still friends and wish each other success and happiness.

==Plot==
Calem enrolled in Kobukan Academy as [[Professor Sycamore]]'s protégé, attending the school on the professor's recommendations, much like the way both the player and [[Blue]] did. Though Calem is there primarily to prepare for his ideal career in Pokémon research, he does spend time on an assortment of school activities, such as the [[Kobukan Academy Student Council|student council]]. Early on, the player witnesses his strained friendship with Serena, as the two do not see eye to eye when it comes to dreams and life goals.

==First glance==
Misty easily stands out due to the iconic side ponytail that sticks out from the left side of her head. She is also relatively tall for a girl. This is mainly the byproduct of being an accomplished swimmer who has trained alongside Water Pokémon her whole life. Naturally, she is fit with extraordinary stamina, capable of besting most male athletes when it comes to endurance.

As an independent young woman, Misty rarely relies on others and is sometimes even offended when offered help or consolation. The earliest the player can see this behavior is if [[Red]] (player character) meets her during the prologue and attempts to help her move her belongings. In return, Misty lashes out and slams the door in his face.

Noted for being tomboyish, Misty does not invest much time maintaining her appearance or indulging in feminine activities. However, she does try to fit in with other female students, as she is often seen in the local shopping district on weekends. Despite her cold attitude, Misty has a caring side. She eventually changes if the player character progresses her story arc, otherwise she can be seen mentoring [[Candice]], who is on the swim team with her starting in the second year.

==Plot==
A few years prior to the start of the story, Misty was living in [[Cerulean City]], next in line to inherit the Gym leader title from her family. It was revealed early on, though, that Misty wanted no part of becoming a Gym leader. Regardless, because she genuinely loved working with Water-type Pokémon, Misty continued her training at the Cerulean Gym as the days counted down.

After a series of incidents involving her [[Misty's Starmie|Starmie]], which resulted in it disappearing, Misty set off on her own to search for answers. She eventually tracked information down to the [[Kobukan region]] and thus she applied to Kobukan Academy, adding a handwritten letter that detailed her personal goals of becoming a master of Water Pokémon. While her ambitions are true, she uses this as a front to take a sabbatical from Gym training.

==Trivia==
* Her birthday is a reference to the first time her anime counterpart was introduced in the first episode of the original anime series in Japan, back in 1997.
* Misty's outfit is based on her anime counterpart's in the ''Advanced Generation series'' (anime season 7).
* Originally Misty was planned to be either the main heroine or at least share the role. Later this idea was scrapped and her ''Advanced Generation'' outfit was used to represent that she is not the main character, much like her representation later in the anime.
* As of version 1.0.2b, Misty and Candice are the only two characters with more than two outfit designs (both have a swimsuit outfit in addition to their casual outfit and academy uniform).

'''The Academy''' is a term [[Kobukan Academy]] students use to refer to the main building located on the northernmost point of the campus.

It is a centuries-old facility that used to host recreational Pokémon battles and contests. Eventually the property was renovated to double as a learning facility before it was permanently converted to a standalone school. However, it retains the old battlegrounds which now serve as makeshift Pokémon gyms. Most of the academy building's original antique features can still be seen along the hallways.

The main academy building is simple to navigate, with its halls laid out in a grid format spread across three floors. The building itself is a prototype for the three student dormitories, which are designed in the same likeness. The first-year students' homerooms are located on the first floor, while the second-year homerooms and third-year homerooms are on the second and third floors, respectively. Students are often seen socializing in the hallways or outside the academy entrance after regular school hours.

With the exception of the gymnasium, Pokémon battles are forbidden within the academy building.

===Homeroom classes===
Homeroom classes serve as the first and last classes of each school day, supervised by a licensed Pokémon professor. As graduation rates are extremely low at Kobukan Academy, there are more professors assigned to first-year students than there are those to second and third-years. [[Professor Oak]], [[Professor Birch]] and [[Professor Sycamore]] are the most notable professors that handle first-year students, [[Professor Elm]] handles second-year students, and [[Professor Juniper]] handles third-year students. [[Professor Rowan]] oversees the day-to-day activities of the teaching staff, though he also handles homeroom duties throughout the semester.

Most homeroom courses include Pokémon social studies, sciences, basic theory and history. These subjects are designed to help students understand the world they live in and transition them into their future careers upon graduating. Pop quizzes that cover these subjects occur twice a week on Mondays and Thursdays, barring days off.

===Type elective classes===
The eighteen type elective classes are scattered throughout the main academy building, but most of them are grouped together close enough to prevent student tardiness. Many of the classrooms adopt their own flare, such as burning torches in the [[Fire|Fire-type]] class or haziness in the [[Dark|Dark-type]] class. The elective classes serve to mold a student's affinity to specific Pokémon types, but students are expected to further their studies on other types outside regular school hours. Elective classes pop quizzes occur twice a week on Tuesdays and Fridays, barring days off.

The gymnasium that the majority of students call "the gym" is not to be confused to official Pokémon League sanctioned Gyms (stylized with a capital G) that are found in different towns and cities worldwide. Located in the back of the main academy building is a gymnasium that serves as a classroom for Pokémon training and battling, supervised by [[Bruno]] and [[Alder]]. Equipped with a plethora of weight machines and other traditional gym equipment, the gym also serves as training grounds for both trainers and their Pokémon after regular school hours. Many members of the school's [[Battle Team]] and prospective members tend to practice at the gym when the [[Battle Hall]] is unavailable.
