As I'm sure a fair amount of you aware, competition in MMO games like CS GO and LoL is quite prominent nowadays. The intensity and competitiveness in these games have gotten to an extent where it is shown on national television (e.g: eLeague on TBS in NA) and prizes of upwards to hundreds of thousands, even millions of dollars are at stake. There is even fantasy leagues and betting websites if one feels so inclined to cash in on the eSport gravy train. Don't even get me started on the various scandals on match fixing and cheating, because there is a fair share of it as well. TL;DR: eSports is booming; some of it good, some of it bad. It is the future of entertainment. Thoughts? |

Hello, Hyun here. I think esport is a great idea. At least better than soccer in my opinion. I want variety when I watch something. I'd rather watch a mario striker's football competition than a real one. More things to see. |

No doubt that Esports has been booming quite recently. Mostly it seems that Dota 2, League of Legends, and CS:GO have been the more popular ones as of late but you also have MKX, Super Smash Bro's, and so on. I actually have played in Dota 2 and CS:GO leagues to compete for a chance at LAN tournaments. While I enjoyed the experience and thrill of competition, I could not always commit my full time to the games as we all have real life issues to deal with as well. I had to eventually drop the competitive aspect and just play casually instead. Deciding on maybe even streaming games I play eventually when I have the time to spare. A lot of people still do not agree with Esports as a "sport" though. ESPN dropped Dota 2 from their channel two years ago after they streamed The International 4 on ESPN 2 as the prize pool was around 10 million dollars. I do think though, that given a couple more years, Esports will be bigger than sports itself knowing the generation children are growing up in. As for the match fixings and cheating scandals, people will do anything for a quick buck and not put much effort into making money. But then again, some Esports players do not make salaries, the make it off tournament placements. |

I tried to become a StarCraft 2 pro gamer for a while. It's pretty hard. The better you get the worse you realise you actually are. I didn't put in the hours so I wasn't able to succeed. Anyway, I love eSports. The two most popular (Dota 2 and League) aren't very fun to watch IMO but you can't deny they draw the viewers. I hope eSports keeps growing and has a great future. |
