List of Pokémon Academy Life characters
This is an extensive list of characters from the Pokémon Academy Life visual novel, currently in development by Pokémon Visual. Despite the fact that characters in Pokémon Academy Life are based on their core series game counterparts, not all of them take on established personalities and characteristics.
Kobukan Academy student characters are organized based on their year at the start of the game. For example, Red begins the game as a freshman and thus is categorized under "First-Year Students," whereas Brock starts off as a senior, or a "Third-Year Student."

First-Year Students
Red
Red is the default name of the player character and the visual novel's story is played from his perspective. At the start of the game, he is a new first-year student enrolling in Kobukan Academy on the recommendation of Professor Oak. As it is a rare opportunity for Red to leave his home back in Pallet Town, he commits and looks forward to the new experiences.
Red was first introduced in Pokémon Red, Pokémon Blue and Pokémon Green versions.
Blue
Blue is Red's childhood friend from Pallet Town, though the two of them prefer to call each other rivals. As the grandson of the famous Professor Oak, Blue strives to make a name for himself and much of his time is spent training to become a stronger, intellectual Pokémon trainer. His attitude does not make him many friends, but he is often associated with elite company.
Blue was first introduced in Pokémon Red, Pokémon Blue and Pokémon Green versions.
Leaf
Leaf is a friendly girl from the Kanto region who Red first met encountered in the third-year women's dorm of Relic Hall. She is considered the main heroine, but can also play supporting roles in the story should the player decide to progress that way. Leaf is quick-witted and equally quick to act, making her one of the more reliable characters. However, she is an elusive individual, which prevents most people, even her roommate May, from truly getting to know her.
Leaf was first introduced in Pokémon FireRed and Pokémon LeafGreen versions.
Brendan
Brendan is one of Red's potential roommates. He is a highly active and expressive individual rarely in a poor mood. He started dating May prior to the beginning of the story, as the two of them originated from Littleroot Town in the Hoenn region. Their relationship with each other is frequently explored, with Red playing major roles if Brendan is selected as the roommate.
Brendan was first introduced in Pokémon Ruby and Pokémon Sapphire versions.
Calem
Calem is one of Red's potential roommates. He is incredibly studious and diligent, due to the fact that he comes from a family of professional Pokémon trainers. He has a relatively quiet ongoing feud with his next-door neighbor and childhood friend Serena, which Red will find himself trapped in between should he attempt to get involved.
Calem was first introduced in Pokémon X and Pokémon Y versions.
Cheren
Cheren is one of Red's potential roommates and later becomes the student council president. He is a strong-willed individual bound by rules and logic. Because of his personality, Cheren can often be crass and difficult to deal with, even though he's at his toughest when he means well. He is longtime friends with Hilbert, Hilda and Bianca.
Cheren was first introduced in Pokémon Black and Pokémon White versions.
Tierno
Tierno is one of Red's potential roommates. He is musically inclined and already set his sights on perfecting a Pokémon dance crew, even before enrolling at Kobukan Academy. His best friend is Trevor, and the two of them can usually be seen hanging out together. He has a not-so-subtle infatuation with Serena, yet he never shows any signs to follow through, possibly due to his preference to avoid drama and conflicts in general.
Tierno was first introduced in Pokémon X and Pokémon Y versions.
May
May is Brendan's girlfriend prior to the start of the visual novel, and if Brendan is selected as the roommate, May will become a central figure in many story routes. She is also the roommate of Leaf, the main heroine. May has a wildly enthusiastic nature, which allows her to easily befriend other female students in the academy. As a result, she can play a key role in introducing Red to other characters.
May was first introduced in Pokémon Ruby and Pokémon Sapphire versions.
Hilbert
Hilbert is a longtime friend of Cheren, Hilda and Bianca, as the four of them all make their homes in Nuvema Town of the Unova region. He is a very serious and disciplined student and is oftentimes blindsided by his relentless desire for accomplishments. Fortunately for him—and also to his dismay—he is kept in check by Hilda.
Hilbert was first introduced in Pokémon Black and Pokémon White versions.
Hilda
Hilda, like her close friend Hilbert, is a very serious student who is highly dedicated to her tasks at hand. She is also longtime friends with Cheren and Bianca, though she spends more of her time monitoring Hilbert. While she can be critical at times, Hilda cares deeply about the people in her life.
Hilda was first introduced in Pokémon Black and Pokémon White versions.
Bianca
Bianca is a flighty girl who, in her own admittance, is a little on the air-headed side. Despite having a polar opposite personality, she frequently tags along with Hilbert, Hilda and Cheren, as the four of them are longtime friends. She is Hilda's roommate, and the two of them share a sister-like relationship.
Bianca was first introduced in Pokémon Black and Pokémon White versions.
Serena
Serena is a refined girl who maintains a consistent, ladylike persona. However, she is often misjudged as a snobby socialite, which impedes her ability to fit in with the rest of her peers. In addition to fitting in, Serena also struggles with her goals in life, as her mother—a recently retired Rhyhorn racer—wishes for her to pursue a career in racing. Unable to see herself with that type of life, Serena hopes to pave her own path, starting anew at Kobukan Academy.
Serena was first introduced in Pokémon X and Pokémon Y versions.
Shauna
Shauna is Serena's roommate and the two have known each other for many years prior to the start of the story. She deeply treasures the connections she's made throughout her life, whether it's with people or Pokémon. She is extremely selfless and does not hesitate to place the happiness of others over her own.
Shauna was first introduced in Pokémon X and Pokémon Y versions.
Trevor
Trevor is Tierno's best friend and the two cannot be more different when placed side by side. Trevor is exceptionally short for his age, while Tierno maintains a rather large physique. Trevor is also soft-spoken at times, whereas Tierno is usually loud than not. Alone, Trevor is often seen researching or exploring the outdoors as a hobbyist photographer.
Trevor was first introduced in Pokémon X and Pokémon Y versions.
Misty
Misty is an independent girl with a strong passion for Water-type Pokemon. Due to her stubborn nature, she rarely relies on others and is sometimes even offended when offered help or consolation. Inherently tomboyish, Misty does make an effort fit in with her peers by spending time in local shopping districts on weekends.
Misty was first introduced in Pokémon Red, Pokémon Blue and Pokémon Green versions.
Sabrina
Sabrina is an enigmatic Psychic Pokémon trainer with esper-like powers. She is reclusive and quiet girl with little desire to be in public eye.
Sabrina was first introduced in Pokémon Red, Pokémon Blue and Pokémon Green versions.
Whitney
Whitney is an upbeat, talkative girl with an overwhelmingly positive attitude. Whitney excels in sports and she's the ace pitcher and lead-off hitter for Kobukan Academy's women's baseball team. She is also Flannery's roommate.
Whitney was first introduced in Pokémon Gold and Pokémon Silver versions.
Jasmine
Jasmine, at the beginning of the visual novel, is a first-year student at Kobukan Academy, though she's a year older than the rest of her class. She was held back a year due to health issues, which contribute to her frail appearance and meek nature. She yearns for the outdoors and oftentimes goes against better interests by venturing out alone.
Jasmine was first introduced in Pokémon Gold and Pokémon Silver versions.
Flannery
Flannery is a short-tempered and high-strung girl, frequently lashing out in defensive response. Despite how she acts, Flannery is not naturally hostile, which Red eventually learns. She is Whitney's roommate.
