Blue is the childhood friend and rival of Red (player character), both originating from their hometown of Pallet Town. He is also the grandson of Professor Oak, a world-famous Pokémon researcher who also teaches at Kobukan Academy.
He eventually becomes the captain of the academy's competitive Pokémon Battle team, spending much of his time in the Battle Hall.

First glance
Blue is a rather tall young man whose height is further stretched by his long spiky hair. He usually appears aloof, but he is a highly competent Pokémon trainer who also strives to reach new intellectual heights. When Blue is serious, he can take on an authoritative, though much more menacing appearance.
Primarily driven by personal ambitions, Blue can seem selfish and conceited even to people who aren't familiar with him. He is quite arrogant, but because he develops a strong track record of success, no one can really argue against him. As he is often associated with elite company, the environment he's constantly in does not help to keep him grounded.
Plot
Blue arrived at the academy on the same bus as Red, but made the conscious effort of getting into the dormitories, matching with a roommate, and reserving a room before the player. Initially, Blue is introduced as a selfish and egocentric individual with an unhealthy obsession with outdoing the player in every task. While he is not overtly toxic or spiteful, his offhand remarks and brusque way of talking is an obvious sign of his distaste for the player. However, as time goes on, he begins to willingly cooperate with the player (and vice versa) due to a mutual respect between the two.

Trivia
- His birthday is a reference to the original Japanese release date of Pokémon Red and Pokémon Green versions. He shares this with Red.
- Blue's character art was the first to be completed by lead artist dmjh93. The design was later revised, though.
- Originally, Blue was supposed to be called "Green," based on his official Japanese name in the core series games. However, he was later changed to the English version of "Blue" to better represent the demographics.
- His habit of bidding people farewell with "Smell ya later!" is a direct reference to his official games' counterpart.
- As of version 1.0.2b, Blue is the only character in Pokémon Academy Life that the player can nickname. This is referencing his role as a rival character, which players can name in the core series games.
